Lisa’s Class Room 2-408
In Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile, by Bernard Waber, Lyle really wants to be friends with Loretta. Loretta is a cat. But… Loretta is scared of Lyle because he looks scary. He tried flashing “his sweetest, most toothsome smile” at her to show how really friendly he was. Lyle was showing off, but then he saw Loretta on the sidewalk. He wanted to show Loretta that he wasn’t doing anything related to hurting her, but this only made Loretta more scared. “It came as a particular surprise that Lyle could high-jump.” “Loretta was surprised. She was terribly surprised. Loretta was so surprised she fled to the nearest tree.” Nothing would bring her down, but then Mr. Grump came. Finally, Loretta came down. Now Loretta isn’t very smart because you don’t judge people by the way they look! But then at the end, Loretta finally likes Lyle.
