Lisa’s Class Room 2-408
Have you ever had a toy that you brought to school that was a distraction and you wanted to listen but you just can’t? Well in the book, Lilly’s Purple Purple Purse, by Kevin Henkes, Lilly has the same problem. At school she just can’t stop playing and playing with her purse. If you had that experience, you would know how she felt. At home, Lilly pretended to be Mr. Slinger, Lilly’s teacher. “I am the teacher,” she told her baby brother Julius. “What’s with Lilly?’ asked her mother. “I thought she wanted to be a surgeon, an ambulance driver, or a diva?” thought her father. But they were wrong.
At school, Lilly always raised her hand, even if she didn’t know the right answer. She kept on distracting everybody. I felt bad for Lilly when Mr. Slinger took away her quarters, her glasses, and most of all, her purse. She should have stopped playing with it and move on. At center time, Lilly drew a picture of Mr. Slinger because she was mad he took her purse. That picture said, “BIG FAT MEAN MR. STEELING TEACHER.” Right before the last bell rang, Lilly sneaked the drawing into Mr. Slinger’s book bag. I was surprised that Lilly turned her back to Mr. Slinger. I thought she would never want to be a teacher again. The next day Lilly took a batch of cookies that her dad made to school. Then her mom made a note. Mr. Slinger understood. Lilly was happy about that. She handed out the cookies… She didn’t want to be anything else but… A TEACHER!
